Equine Travel Tips

With the summer holidays upon us, how many of you are getting out and about, travelling around with your horses or ponies?

If you are, check out our top tips:

  • Plan in advance - where you're going, the route, and what you'll do if there's a traffic jam or holdup
  • Plan regular stops - at the minimum, every 5-6 hours so you can check, feed and water the horses
  • Make sure you've got your horse's passport - it's a legal requirement!
  • Take water and buckets plus haynets and anything you might need if you are caught out
  • Make sure you've made arrangements for your horses to be rescued if you break down or have an accident - the AA and RAC won't usually pick them up for you
  • Be careful to check them over before travelling as travel can make existing health problems much, much worse, so make sure you only travel with healthy horses
